The Underrated US Beaches You Need to Hit This Summer

Moonlight Beach ,California

This “secret” beach is found at the very bottom of a particular cliff in Encinitas. In the heart of your quintessential sunny Cali beach town, cool breezes blow by the tightly-placed, highly-priced beach homes, and the welcoming ocean can be spied from nearly every intersection. You can park your wheels at the top of the nearby bluff and then hike down to a family-friendly beach that features a beautiful view, a playground, and even smooth sidewalks seemingly made for skating.

Pass-a-Grille ,Florida

Dr. Beach may have written about almost every beach in Florida save this one. Residents of historic St. Petersburg are good with that though because it has thus far kept most of the tourists away from their beach. This is the longest stretch of undeveloped public beach in the US. Bordered on the one side by Intracoastal Waterway and the other by the Gulf of Mexico, the scene is serene and the waves are small. Stroll across the seagrass to explore the historic district’s funky boutiques, little ice cream shops, and welcoming restaurants.
