Looking for an educational and historic adventure? Explore the Chacchoben Mayan Ruins. In English, the name means “the place of red corn.”
Located just outside Costa Maya, these ruins reportedly date back to approximately 200 B.C. Framed by cohune palms and mahogany trees, the highlights of this ancient city include the Temple of the Vessels and Temple 1. There are also the giant pyramid structures and huge courtyards that once were the site of many Mayan ceremonies.
Right outside of awesome Ocho Rios is Dunn’s River Falls. It is one of Jamaica’s most famous natural attractions. If you love the outdoors and you love waterfalls, this is the place to be.
Dunn’s River Falls is a terrific terraced cascade in the very heart of this tropical paradise. You can even get your choice of adventure hiking to the falls. Take the trail that runs along the cascade’s edge or, if you’re up for a challenge, climb up the rugged travertine waterfall “steps.” Either way, both end in an invigorating dip into one of the natural pools at the end of your adventure.
