There’s a picturesque nature reserve not far from Rodney Bay in the Pigeon Island National Park’s northwest region. It is one of the highlights of this Caribbean isle complete with historic ruins and a pair of pretty beaches. Hike the trail to famous Fort Rodney, enjoy the view and learn a little bit about the ruins here. The various informational signs tell the torrid tale of the old fort built by Admiral George Rodney in the late 18th century. They provide both historical and cultural insight into the structure’s significance. On a clear day, (as the song goes), you can see as far as Martinique.
You may not know it, but Sapphire Beach’s clear waters are home to rich and diverse marine life. Begin your snorkeling adventure off the sugar-white, soft sands of the island’s exceptional east coast beach. There are locals ready and willing to provide you with the gear you will need for your excellent underwater adventure.
Arguably one of the island’s most popular places for snorkeling is at the very end of the beach. It’s aptly named Pretty Klip Point. It is here within these clear, calm waters that you can get a glimpse of colorful coral, surprisingly graceful sea turtles, and a variety of tropical fish. Later, dine on delicious local fare from the local bar and grill as you relax beneath the shade of plentiful palm trees.
